Level 3
(Apprenticeship programme)
This qualification will guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills of those employed within the health and social care sector. The programme is aimed at those in roles that exercise autonomy and judgement within limited parameters, such as Senior Social Care Workers or Senior Support Workers.
On completion of this Apprenticeship you will receive the following qualifications:
City & Guilds Level 2 in Health and Social Care: Core* (if not already completed)
City & Guilds Level 3 in Health and Social Care: Practice
Level 2 Essential Skills - Application of Number (AON)**
Level 2 Essential Skills - Communication **
Entry requirements
​
Learners applying for this role must be a senior working with adults in the health and social care sector, and have a minimum of 6 months experience of working in a care environment to have enough experience to complete this course. They must be contracted to work a minimum of 16 hours per week with their employer and must have passed their probationary period.
Learners must not be following any other European Social Fund or Welsh Government funded courses to be eligible for funding, however, it is possible to privately fund this qualification.
Course Delivery

The qualification is divided into two components: the Core qualification, delivered via workshops and/or a combination of one2one and virtual online guidance, which develops and assesses your knowledge, and the Practice qualification, which focuses on and assesses your practical competencies; this is delivered via self-directed study (for example producing plans, observations and reflections).
An assessor will visit the candidate at their workplace. Observations will be agreed between the learner and assessor and it is the responsibility of the learner to liaise with their employer for this to take place within the workplace.
The Essential Skill Qualifications (if required) consist of controlled tasks, tests and group collaboration. These will be done through workshops and/or one2one and will help develop the learner’s numeracy, and literacy skills.

The full duration of this Foundation Apprenticeship framework is 19 months.

Level 2 in Health & Social Care: Core
This element of the qualification is usually delivered via workshops and/or a combination of one2one and virtual online guidance, which will take place during the first six months of your qualification. The delivery will take place at an Academa centre, or at your workplace if facilities are available.

Assessment: Learners will sit an invigilated 1 Hour 45 minute Multiple Choice (MCQ) exam, learners can attend additional workshops/one2one sessions for guidance & support.
Level 3 in Health & Social Care: Practice
To achieve the Level 2 qualification, the candidate must achieve the mandatory unit (18 credits) and as well as a minimum of 16 credits from Group A and the remaining 7 credits from either Group A or Group B.

* The Core certificate will not be issued until the practical qualification has also been certified. Learners who have completed the AWIF (All Wales Induction Framework) will have an initial assessment undertaken by a qualified assessor and may need further underpinning knowledge and support before sitting the MCQ exam.

**As part of your Apprenticeship, you are required to undertake a framework of qualifications which include Essential skills. You may already hold qualifications that could be used to ‘proxy’ for these if you wish. These include:
